Thrifting Thursday June 6 2013

Hello Thursday Thrifters~ Today I am showcasing two recent successful shopping trips. The first pic on the left shows what I found for around $10 at the new DAV thrift store in our area. The red leather belt was a steal at $1.98. Not only will that interesting buckle make a great pendant, but the tooled leather is in great condition and will be used for some bracelets.
I used my 40% off at Michael's coupon and purchased a kit for heavy duty leather snaps so now I can make bracelets with good closures.

In the upper left you see a 100% copper bracelet. It was .99, and had a nice deep design but was bent and scratched.  That was no problem as I could re-hammer, patina and buff it to give it new life.

I also took apart the necklace with multiple base metal discs and after cleaning, did some patina treatments and added a bit of alcohol ink which gives a nice contrast of rusty and indigo.
The other pins, bracelets and necklaces were broken down and cleaned and are awaiting some inspiration

A few days later, on the other side of town I dropped about $15.  I stopped by the Salvation Army store and found these two leather belts [$1.98 each] in brown and black with great  detailed buckles.
Also a [NIP] card of glass rings , a nice heavy chain belt with faux pearls, a  heavy  rolo chain necklace and several orphan earrings, a shoe clip and a big base metal piece.
All the watches were .99 each and will find their way into some 'steampunk' inspired resin work.

So I have some more thrifty goodies to work with, now if I can just carve out some time to make the magic happen :-D
Thanks for checking in ~ I always appreciate you spending a few minutes with me
Have a great rest of your week.
Warm Regards,
Tammie

  1. Awesome finds. It is cool to find someone else that shops thrift stores. Would never have thought about using belts...but will in the future!
