Welcome Back Thrifting Thursday! 3/12/15 Converting a Paper Towel Holder to a Necklace Display

Hello Thrifty TTE Friends~

Wow! It's been awhile! Although I did a quick "ThTH" post in February I haven't done an honest to goodness one with a 'how to' since November 2014! So without further ado, let's make a thrifty necklace display!
Here we have a typical kitchen counter paper towel holder. I found mine at the thrift shop for $2.98
I removed the top and the side peg and gave the remaining stand a couple of coats of almond spray paint. While this was drying I took the narrow but thick cardboard tube [ from a 'Press & Seal' roll] and measured and cut a small hole in the center.
Using Mod Podge, I coated both the card board tube and the center pole and wrapped them neatly in some left over burlap scraps I had on hand, tucking the edges neatly into the holes at each end. I then wrapped them tightly with string and set them aside to dry for 24 hours.

Once dry, I carefully unwrapped the string, and cut away the bit of burlap over the center hole. I applied a generous amount of E6000 to the inside of the tube and top of the stand pole and snugly fitted them in place and set aside to dry again for 24 hours.

VOIL'A ~ All set for my next craft show March 21st.

And just in case you wondered if I still hit the thrift shops, I do!
I took some time off over the holidays, and I am trying to be more discerning about what I buy, but here is what I found last week when I hit my local circuit.
A tin tray, a pretty purple canister and a cool jungle themed tin box. These will make great up cycled tin jewelry. I also scored a N.I.P. bead board for $2- a good deal and nice to have on hand when you have more than one project going at a time. All this for less than $5
Thanks for stopping by! See you next week.
Warm Regards,
Tammie
